Practical cybersecurity guides, labs & compliance
Choose a pentesting VM distribution from the exact image, host architecture and required applications. Compare support, updates and recovery using a representative task and acceptance record rather than an unmeasured performance ranking.
Use a bounded VM enumeration pass to record reachable services, scan scope and unresolved questions. Preserve timing choices and raw evidence, then distinguish quick triage from the complete inventory or follow-up the task requires.
Map an authorized web app through roles, requests, inputs, data flows and trust boundaries. Label observations and inferences separately and preserve identity and state context before treating a visible or hidden route as an authorization result.
Choose Nmap option groups from a defined question and approved scan scope. Keep discovery, protocol, port coverage, timing, combined behavior and output choices explicit so the evidence and untested areas can be interpreted.
Choose a vulnerable lab from prerequisites, the task and the skill gap you want to practise. Record the source and context of a difficulty label, distinguish setup friction and assistance, and update the choice from your own evidence.
Match Kioptrix level numbers to the original VM release and archive before downloading or following a walkthrough. Use release-specific setup notes and the working record to preserve image identity, compatibility and the next learning goal.
Diagnose a Windows, WSL2 and Kali VMware setup by labeling the source of each observation. Separate global WSL settings from distro settings, compare actual network paths and preserve recovery before changing resource allocations.
Review Gobuster path candidates with the base URL, wordlist, extension choices and filters recorded. Compare candidate and missing-path responses under the same session conditions, preserving filtered results and untested coverage.
